DepEd Investigates Alleged Ghost Students in SHS Voucher Program

PASIG CITY, 17 February 2025 – The Department of Education (DepEd) Central Office has launched an investigation into the alleged presence of ghost students under the Senior High School (SHS) Voucher Program in 12 private schools across 9 divisions.

DepEd is scrutinizing personnel and officials potentially involved in this fraudulent activity, which could lead to the termination of the schools' participation in the program. This action aligns with President Bongbong Marcos' directive to uphold transparency and accountability.

"We take these allegations seriously. Any form of misuse of public funds intended for critical education programs will not be tolerated. This investigation is a necessary step as we pursue the truth and hold accountable those responsible," said Secretary Sonny Angara.

DepEd has initiated actions, including preparing for the termination of the schools' accreditation and gathering evidence against those responsible. The Department is also considering legal measures, including administrative and criminal sanctions, in accordance with existing laws and regulations.

DepEd assures the public that it will provide necessary assistance to affected, legitimate students to ensure their continued education without disruption. The Department remains committed to strengthening monitoring mechanisms to prevent similar incidents in the future.
